Visa, Residence Permit & Insurance

This page provides essential information for incoming Erasmus+ students regarding visa requirements, residence permit procedures and health insurance for their stay in Türkiye. Incoming students are responsible for ensuring that they comply with all legal requirements related to entry, stay and health coverage during their mobility period.

Visa Requirements

Incoming Erasmus+ students may be required to obtain a visa before travelling to Türkiye, depending on their nationality.

  • Visa requirements vary by country and should be checked through the nearest Turkish Embassy or Consulate in the student’s home country.

  • Students are strongly advised to apply for their visa well in advance of their planned travel date.

  • The Letter of Acceptance issued by Hakkari University can be used to support the visa application process.

Students are responsible for following the official visa procedures and meeting all requirements determined by the authorities of the Republic of Türkiye.

Residence Permit

Students who will stay in Türkiye longer than 90 days, or who are required to do so according to their visa status, must apply for a residence permit after arrival.

  • Residence permit applications are usually required to be submitted within a limited period after entry to Türkiye.

  • Incoming students will receive guidance on the residence permit application process from the Erasmus+ Office after arrival.

  • Required documents may include a valid passport, health insurance, student certificate, photographs and an official application form, as determined by the Directorate of Migration Management.

Students are responsible for completing their residence permit application in accordance with Turkish regulations.

Health Insurance

All incoming Erasmus+ students must have valid health insurance covering the entire duration of their stay in Türkiye.

  • The European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) is not valid in Türkiye for residence permit purposes.

  • Students whose home country has a social security agreement with Türkiye may be eligible for public health insurance (SGK), subject to official procedures.

  • If public health insurance is not applicable, students must obtain private health insurance that meets the minimum requirements for residence permit applications in Türkiye.

  • Travel insurance alone is not sufficient for residence permit applications.

Health insurance must be valid from the date of entry and cover the full mobility period.

Important Notes

  • Students are responsible for ensuring that their passport is valid for the entire mobility period.

  • All legal procedures related to visa, residence permit and insurance must be completed in accordance with Turkish law.

  • Failure to comply with these requirements may affect the student’s legal status in Türkiye.
