Digital Access

Accessibility Statement

Accessible University Unit

At Hakkari University, we develop our website to support equal access to information and digital services for all users, including people with disabilities. Usability with keyboards, screen readers, mobile devices and other assistive technologies is an integral part of this work.

Our Accessibility Commitment

We are committed to making our digital services accessible to all users. We consider accessibility throughout design, software development, content creation and maintenance, and make improvements to help users access information as independently as possible.

Our Approach to Standards Conformance

Our website is being updated with the aim of meeting the Level A requirements of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 and improving conformance with Level AA requirements. This work addresses content structure, colour contrast, keyboard access, focus visibility and semantic HTML. This aim does not mean that full conformance has been verified for every page, document and third-party resource on the website.

Website Features

Available Accessibility Features

Accessibility Menu

Display options include text size, contrast, link highlighting, reduced motion, hiding images, font selection, text spacing and line height. A reading guide, reading mask and large cursor also help users adjust the display to their needs. This menu does not replace the underlying accessibility requirements of the page.

Keyboard Navigation

Keyboard operation is supported for menus, the search panel, tabs, pagination, links and buttons. Visible focus indicators help users identify the element they are currently interacting with.

Semantic Page Structure

Heading hierarchy, page regions, descriptive link text, form labels and alternative text for images are used to support screen reader access.

Colour and Contrast

We aim to provide sufficient contrast to distinguish text, buttons and focus indicators from their backgrounds. Display options, including high contrast and reduced saturation, can be enabled according to user preferences.

Motion and Animation Controls

An option to reduce animations is supported for users who are sensitive to motion. The prefers-reduced-motion preference communicated by the operating system or browser is also taken into account.

Audio Verification and Forms

We aim to provide an audio alternative where CAPTCHA is used, along with descriptive form labels, clear error messages and processes that can be completed using a keyboard.

Our WCAG 2.2 AA Approach

Principles Guiding Our Work

  • Perceivable: We aim to provide appropriate text alternatives for informative images, ensure content is readable and avoid conveying information through colour alone.
  • Operable: We aim to make links, menus, forms and controls usable with a keyboard, with a logical focus order and visible focus indicators.
  • Understandable: We aim to make page titles, explanations, error messages and link text clear and consistent.
  • Robust: We aim to ensure content can be interpreted correctly by different browsers and assistive technologies through semantic HTML and appropriate ARIA attributes where necessary.

Transparency

Known Limitations

The accessibility of older archived content, PDF and Word documents, and other downloadable files published on our website may vary. Compatibility with assistive technologies may not yet have been verified for all such content. Accessibility improvements to the website interface do not, on their own, establish that all linked documents are equally accessible.

The accessibility of maps, videos, content added to our pages from social media platforms, and externally linked applications may be affected by the features provided by the relevant service provider. The way this content is integrated into our website also matters for accessibility. We aim to provide explanatory text and alternative ways to access information where needed.

If you experience difficulty accessing any content or document, please contact the University's Accessible University Unit, providing the relevant page address, the document name where applicable, and a description of the difficulty you encountered. You can visit the unit's website using the “Accessible University Unit” link at the top of this page.
